Virginia Tech women's basketball coach Megan Duffy begins her second season on the job in Blacksburg. After a good first season, the Hokies' coach has already had a very good start to her second season in multiple ways. Recruiting has been a hit, and she even added another experienced coach to her staff.
Duffy also expressed how excited she is for the 2025-26 season with her team, which added some key transfers and some promising incoming freshmen. As we flip to July, here are three of the biggest storylines from June for the former Marquette coach.
Duffy secures two Class of 2026 commitments
It didn't take Duffy long to secure her first two commitments in the Class of 2026, getting two over a two-day span this past weekend. Late Friday night, she got a commitment from four-star guard Kaleo Anderson from Washington before picking up a commitment Sunday afternoon from Arianna Harris-Mott from Maryland.
Anderson is a guard who will fit right into the Hokies' guard-heavy lineup at times, and Harris-Mott is a rising player in the class who is tremendous on the defensive end, protecting the basket and altering shots. Both players are going to be nice additions to the 2026-27 roster.
Duffy adds another assistant coach & GM
Along with some commitments, Duffy also added to her staff when it was announced that Darren Guensch was joining her on the bench. He comes to Blacksburg with a lot of experience as a coach and recruiter.
Earlier in the month, Duffy hired the program's first general manager when Stephen Fishler, who will oversee the Hokies' NIL and revenue spending, as well as having a big part in the roster construction for Duffy. This is what college sports are turning into.
ACC/SEC Challenge opponent released
Like the men, the Hokies' women learned their ACC/SEC Challenge opponent for the 2025-26 season last month. Virginia Tech will host Florida at Cassell Coliseum in their first-ever home game in the challenge after playing at LSU two years ago and at Georgia last season.
The ACC also announced the conference opponents for the women, mainly the home and away games. Like the men, the Hokies' women will face a difficult road schedule.
