Last week, the ACC released the home/away opponents for the men's basketball teams in what is going to be a new 18-game slate in 2025-26. One quick takeaway from the release was that the schedule makers didn't do Mike Young and his team any favors when it came to road games.
If you think the men didn't get any favors schedule-wise, then wait until you see the women's schedule. Megan Duffy and her team are going to be racking up the frequent flyer miles next winter after the ACC released the home/away opponents for the women.
Virginia Tech women facing daunting travel ACC schedule in 2025-26
Let's just say, Duffy and her team are going to spend a lot of time in the air next season. The road games Virginia Tech will face will include their first trip out to California to play Stanford and Cal, and they will also head to Texas to take on the other ACC newcomer, SMU. The rest of the road games are at Florida State, Louisville, Notre Dame, Virginia, Wake Forest, and Syracuse. That's a daunting travel schedule.
The home games inside Cassell Coliseum are against Virginia, Boston College, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Duke, Miami, North Carolina, Pittsburgh, and North Carolina State. They get three of the four North Carolina schools at home, but that isn't going to be an easy slate either.
With conference realignment, this is where we're at in terms of travel, and every other year, the traveling will be difficult for Duffy and her program. Everyone has to do it, and next year it's the Hokies' turn.
Virginia Tech will have a different-looking roster with six newcomers, either through the transfer portal or incoming freshmen, to go with the retained talent Duffy has coming back. They will get to learn the new lay of the land in the ACC next winter.
