It was a big Sunday for a handful of former Virginia Tech football players in the NFL. Tremaine Edmunds had a huge game against the Dallas Cowboys in the Chicago Bears' first win of the season, with 15 tackles and a pair of interceptions. Jaylin Lane had a huge 90-yard punt return for the Washington Commanders in a win over the Las Vegas Raiders.
In Florida, former Hokies' running back Bhayshul Tuten didn't blow anyone away with his numbers, but once again, he found the end zone for the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The former Virginia Tech running back had six carries for 21 yards, but he scored a touchdown for the second consecutive week as the Jaguars beat the Houston Texans, 17-10, in an early-season AFC South showdown. Tuten scored his first NFL touchdown last week in a loss to the Cincinnati Bengals through the air, while the once against the Texans was on a 1-yard run in the first quarter.
ACC slaps Syracuse with fine
Syracuse went to Clemson on Saturday and beat the Tigers, 34-21, which opened some eyes around the ACC. After the game, Tigers' quarterback Cade Klubnik thought that the Orange were faking injuries to slow the game down and take them out of rhythm. Apparently, so did the ACC.
On Monday morning, the conference hit Syracuse with a $25,000 fine for feigning injuries against Clemson.
Virginia Tech double-digit underdog at NC State
Coming off a 38-6 win over Wofford for their first win of the season at Lane Stadium on Saturday, the Virginia Tech football team and interim coach Philip Montgomery will open ACC play at North Carolina State on Saturday night. It will be a tough game for a number of reasons, and the odds reflect that.
According to DraftKings, the Hokies are a 10.5 underdog against the Wolfpack. NC State will be an angry team after a loss at Duke on Saturday for its first setback of the season. Also, who knows which players will be available for Virginia Tech and which won't.
Men's soccer falls at No. 3 Stanford
The Hokies' men's soccer team dropped a late Sunday night match at No. 3 Stanford, 3-1. Tech's lone goal was an own goal from the Cardinal, who deflected the ball into their own net in the second half. The loss drops Virginia Tech to 2-2-3 overall and 0-2-1 in the ACC. They return to the pitch next Monday night at East Tennessee State at 7 p.m.
