The transition that the Virginia Tech football team badly needed has begun. It started with the firing of Brent Pry on Sunday, and there are expected to be more changes coming higher than the head football coach.

The program is going to struggle the rest of the year, and decisions are going to be made by players over the next week or two in terms of their futures in Blacksburg. Interim coach Philip Montgomery will lead the Hokies the rest of the season, beginning this weekend in their final non-conference game at home against Wofford.

At 0-3, a win would certainly be welcomed after losses to South Carolina, Vanderbilt, and Old Dominion to begin the season. On September 27, Virginia Tech will open ACC play at North Carolina State, and on Monday, the ACC announced the start time for the game, and it certainly was a surprising one.

ACC announces start time for Virginia Tech conference opener at NC State

In a surprising announcement, the ACC announced that Virginia Tech's ACC opener at North Carolina State in Raleigh will kick off at 7 p.m. and be broadcast on the dreaded C.W. Network. Not that ESPN broadcasts are anything to write home about, but the C.W. Network's are a tough listen.

Just what the roster will look like for the Hokies when they make the trip southward remains to be seen. NC State is 3-0 after wins over East Carolina, Virginia, and Wake Forest to open the season and should end up being a heavy favorite over the Hokies when the game begins, but this had a noontime start written all over it. Still, it'll be the third Saturday night broadcast in the first five Virginia Tech games of the season. The Hokeis will host Wofford this weekend at noon at Lanye Stadium.
