One year ago, the Virginia Tech football team got a ton of retainment across their roster, but one area saw a significant number of players come back. Four wide receivers, Ali Jennings, Stephen Gosnell, Jaylin Lane, and Da'Quan Felton all announced that they were coming back for 2024.
Now that the regular season is in the books for the Hokies, Lane, and Felton are moving on to the NFL, while Gosnell and Jennings were on the practice field this week for the Jan. 3 Duke's Mayo Bowl against Minnesota. One receiver who worked his way onto the field this season and made an impact despite the four older players back was Ayden Green and Friday night, he made a decision about his future.
Ayden Greene announced he's returning to Virginia Tech for 2025
Greene, who saw some key snaps at wide receiver and was used in multiple ways by offensive coordinator Tyler Bowen, announced on his X account that he's returning to Virginia Tech for 2025. Like the players who announced last season that they were returning for 2024, he said that there is unfinished business in Blacksburg.
This season Greene had 13 catches for 153 yards and a pair of touchdowns against Miami and Clemson. He also rushed the ball for 63 yards on seven carries and a touchdown in Week 11 at Duke on an end-around.
Virginia Tech is losing four receivers after the bowl game and they have some promising young receivers coming back and coming in with the Class of 2025. Greene is one of the returning veterans in the wide receiver room and will be a big part of the offense. The Tennessee native will look to build on his 11.8 average yards per catch with both quarterbacks, Kyron Drones, and Pop Watson, also returning.
