Virginia Tech women's basketball to host intriguing Class of 2025 recruit
By Scott Roche
Since taking over as women's basketball coach at Virginia Tech, Megan Duffy has been hard at work putting together a roster for the 2024-25 after taking over for Kenny Brooks. As well as building a roster for next season, the former Marquette coach has been busy hosting recruits and building a future roster.
Already since being hired in Blacksburg, Duffy has got a pair of Class of 2025 commitments and on Wednesday, another recruit in the class of rising seniors in the fall will be taking another visit before making a decision.
Virginia Tech women's basketball to host Payton Dunbar
Jefferson Christian Academy combo guard Payton Dunbar will take a visit to Blacksburg on Wednesday and she posted on X, formerly Twitter, that she received an offer from Duffy and Virginia Tech on June 18. She has visited Wake Forest and will also have visits to Rutgers, Virginia, and Michigan
Dunbar is 5-foot-11 and uses her length at both ends of the floor as she can put the ball on the floor and get to the basket while being able to knock down shots from behind the arc. Currently, Duffy has commitments from Katie Sears on Memorial Day Weekend and the North Carolina native was joined by Amani Jenkins this past weekend. Jenkins originally committed to Duffy at Marquette, but after she left for Virginia Tech, Jenkins re-opened her recruitment, but she stayed committed to Duffy and will follow her to Blacksburg.
Duffy is beginning to put her fingerprints on the program and Dunbar is another opportunity to add to a Class of 2025 that is starting to see the pieces put together the last month.
