2 Virginia Tech Men's Basketball Transfers Named Most Impact 2024-25 Transfers
By Scott Roche
It's no secret that the Virginia Tech men's basketball team went through a roster overhaul this past spring after being eliminated in the second round of the NIT at Ohio State in March. Head coach Mike Young lost several key pieces that were eligible to return as they hit the transfer portal to play elsewhere in 2024-25.
One player who entered the portal, Mylyjael Poteat, withdrew three days after entering and decided to return to Blacksburg for his final season. Young brought in some transfers who are expected to step in and make an immediate impact, but it's going to be hard for some of them to fill the voids that were left.
Two of the five players that left in the transfer portal that are going to be tough to replace were named two of the Top 100 transfers that will make an impact this upcoming season.
Two former Virginia Tech players named Top 100 impactful transfers for 2024-25
College basketball writer Tristan Freeman of Busting Brackets, a FanSided college basketball site, listed his Top 100 impactful transfers for the 2024-25 season and he listed two Hokies' transfers from last season's roster, point guard Sean Pedulla and center Lynn Kidd, in his Top 100.
Actually, both were ranked inside the Top 55 with Kidd, who transferred to Miami in the ACC, coming in at No. 54, and Pedulla, who will play at Ole Miss, coming inside the Top 20 at No. 17.
Kidd had a big breakout season for Virginia Tech last season in the middle by averaging 13.2 points and 6.5 rebounds a game while becoming a low-post presence who did a lot of his offensive work around the basket. He also benefitted from Pedulla's ability to get inside the paint and feed him for some easy baskets.
Speaking of Pedulla, the Oklahoma native will be the toughest player that Young will have to replace. He averaged 16.4 points a game and had a lot of responsibility dropped on him when Rodney Rice decided to leave the program just before the season started, leaving the Hokies with just one true ballhandler. Hysier Miller, a Temple transfer, will be tasked with trying to fill Pedulla's shoes this winter.
