Former Virginia Tech guard Sean Pedulla commits to an SEC school in the transfer portal
By Scott Roche
When Virginia Tech point guard Sean Pedulla entered the transfer portal last month, five days after the Hokies season ended in the second round of the NIT at Ohio State, he said that he was leaving the door open to return to the Hokies and head coach Mike Young.
Tuesday night he announced on his X account that he was not returning to Virginia Tech for his final season of eligibility and twenty-four hours later, the Oklahoma native committed to an SEC school.
Sean Pedulla commits to Mississippi
Wednesday night, Pedulla committed to Mississippi, becoming the third member of the 2023-24 Hokies' roster to commit to an SEC school for next season. Mississippi is certainly a destination that not a lot of people saw coming, but the interest from SEC schools for Pedulla was well known. Before John Calipari left for Arkansas, he reached out to him at Kentucky and he was scheduled to visit Alabama. He also visited Oklahoma and it wouldn't have been surprising to see him commit to the Sooners and play in his home state.
Pedulla averaged 16.4 points last season for the Hokies and will be a nice addition to the Ole Miss backcourt next season, giving them a guard who can score both inside getting to the basket and from behind the 3-point line.
Virginia Tech transfers MJ Collins and Tyler Nickel both committed to Vanderbilt in the SEC for next season and center Lynn Kidd landed rather quickly once he entered the portal at Miami in the ACC. Pedulla was by far the biggest name to leave the Hokies in the portal, but as the season went along, there were signs from both Young and Pedulla that it might be happening. It has and he'll be suiting up for Ole Miss in 2024-25.
