Virginia Tech football preparing for biggest recruiting weekend of the season
By Scott Roche
Virginia Tech football coach Brent Pry is beginning to build his Class of 2025. Currently, he has seven recruits committed to the Hokies, including six from the state of Virginia. When he took over as coach for Justin Fuente, he knew that mending relationships in the Commonwealth was necessary in turning the program around.
Friday afternoon, three-star defensive end Christian Evans became the sixth in-state recruit that committed to Virginia Tech in what is a very big weekend for the Hokies third-year coach. That commitment comes a week after Sheldon Robinson. This weekend, over a dozen recruits are in Blacksburg for official visits and you can make the case that this weekend is the biggest recruiting weekend on the calendar for the staff.
Quarterback Kelden Ryan, wide receiver Jayden Anderson, linebacker Brett Clatterbaugh, and cornerback Knahlij Harrell are commitments that are still taking a visit this weekend, likely helping out the staff and current players with recruiting. Priority running back Jeffrey Overton is taking a visit as is offensive lineman Nathaniel Wright, whose 247Sports Crystal Ball Prediction has him going to Virginia Tech, and cornerback Major Preston.
One recruit that was supposed to take a visit this weekend was defensive end Jaquavious Dodd, however, he committed to the University of South Carolina and head coach Shane Beamer late Thursday night. That was an odd time to make a decision, to say the least, but Pry now must turn the book and focus elsewhere. I expect Virginia Tech to stay in touch with Dodd and try and flip him at some point.
This, you might say, is the biggest recruiting for Pry since he became head coach at Virginia tech. He will be looking to add more Class of 2025 recruits and this is the last weekend to prove to them that Blacksburg is home.
