Sunday afternoon, Virginia Tech football coach Brent Pry picked up a huge commitment when three-star quarterback AJ Brand committed to the Hokies over South Carolina and North Carolina, who was making a move for the South Carolina native. He was the first of two commitments that Pry got with linebacker Noah Chambers committing later Sunday afternoon.

Brand was a signal caller that Virginia Tech made a priority and it is a massive pick-up for the Hokies as he is a dynamic duel-threat quarterback who has a very similar skill set as current Tech QB Kyron Drones. There is a lot to like about this commitment and here are three thoughts now that Brand is officially a Hokie.

Brand committing all but ends Malik Washington coming tom Blacksburg

Two quarterbacks in the Class of 2025 that Virginia Tech was heavily recruiting were Brand and Malik Washington, a four-star from Maryland. Washington visited Blacksburg back in April for the Hokies' annual Spring Game and was "very high'' on Virginia Tech, but since then, all signs point toward him landing at Maryland.

Brand is still a good get for Pry and offensive coordinator Tyler Bowen and it never felt like Washington was fully in on Virginia Tech. He'll likely make a decision soon and at this point, it would be surprising if he didn't choose Maryland or Syracuse.

Virginia Tech has dynamic QB room following 2024

Virginia Tech is set under center for the 2024 season with Drones and UCLA transfer Collin Schlee ready to go, followed by Pop Watson, but after this upcoming season, the QB room is going to be a dynamic one for Pry. Of course that is all content on Drones leaving and if he does, there is no shortage of QBs in waiting.

Watson, who played well in the Spring Game two months ago, and current incoming freshman Davi Belfort will be joined by Brand and Kelden Ryan, who already has committed to Virginia Tech. There will be no shortages of play-makers and duel-threat QBs for Pry and Bowen to choose from. This is shaping up to be a very promising quarterback room starting in 2025.

Brent Pry plucks recruit from Shane Beamer

Pry has been getting a lot of commitments from the Class of 2025 from Virginia, but getting Brand is stealing a quarterback from Shane Beamer from right in his backyard. You could tell from the early stages of recruiting that Brand was someone that Virginia Tech went all-in for in recruiting and it paid off. It also keeps him away from North Carolina who began making a move recently.

Virginia Tech's quarterback room is shaping up to be a fun one following next season and watching these four battle things out is going to be fun for Hokies fans.
