One of the best-returning players for Virginia Tech this season is without a doubt Cornerback Dorian Strong. Strong put his NFL dreams on hold when he decided to return for the upcoming season with the Hokies.

Grant Hughes of 247Sports has listed Strong amongst the top 3 ACC defensive players entering the 2024 season. Other top players listed alongside Strong include Louisville defensive end Ashton Gillotte and Miami defensive lineman Reuben Bain.

"Strong put his NFL aspirations aside and announced a return to Virginia Tech this offseason. Last season, Strong rated among the best coverage cornerbacks in college football, allowing just nine receptions on 33 targets for 83 yards and a touchdown. He also flashed ball-hawking abilities, picking off three balls and breaking up seven others. His 2023 season was a bounce-back after injuries limited his 2022 campaign to four games. He's poised to have an even bigger season in 2024 with a full offseason of work under his belt."

Why CB Dorian Strong is a strong contender for ACC player of the year

Strong had a successful 2023 season and looks to continue his run with the Hokies as he returns for his Junior season. Strong is one of the best coverage cornerbacks in college football right now. In his previous season, he defended 11 passes, recorded three interceptions, and allowed only nine receptions out of 33 targets while also accumulating 25 total tackles.

Strong is not the only defensive player to look out for this season. Antwaun Powell-Ryland and Duke transfer Aeneas Peebles were also listed among the top 100 players in college football. Virginia Tech's defense will be a threat this season, accompanied by the impressive offensive pairing of QB Kyron Drones and RB Bhayshul Tuten along with a sew of wide receivers who are also returning.
