When Brent Pry was hired to replace Justin Fuente as football coach at Virginia Tech, he knew it was going to take time to turn things around in Blacksburg. It's safe to say that the former Penn State defensive coordinator has sped up the rebuild.

Going into Year 3, the Hokies are a sleeper in the ACC to make a move up the standings and sneak their way into Charlotte in December for the ACC Championship Game. There is a lot that needs to be done and have go right, but if there is one thing that's clear, it's that Pry had Virginia Tech on its way back up quickly.

In fact, one national college football writer thinks Pry is close to "Waking up a sleeping giant.''

Carter Bahns of 247Sports thinks there are 12 teams poised to take a step forward in 2024, including Virginia Tech. He even thinks that Pry is closing in on "waking up a sleeping giant.''

"Virginia Tech quietly generated a lot of buzz this offseason, but not enough for the general college football public to fully buy into the Hokies. They remain an under-the-radar contender in the ACC, but if quarterback Kyron Drones makes the leap many expect in his second year as the team's starting quarterback, he could legitimately launch his team into the conference title conversation. Brent Pry has this program back on the rise, and a favorable schedule in 2024 should help wake up a sleeping giant."

There is no doubt that Pry has the program on the rise quickly. The players off of last season's team sent a message by having a ton of retainment rather than going onto the NFL or transfer. The transfer portal brought in some key additions, including Aeneas Peebles from Duke along the defensive line. Adding recruiting in the Class of 2025 where 10 of the 14 commitments are from the state of Virginia, the Hokies are waking up quickly.

There is no doubt that Virginia Tech could be in for a special season in 2024 as they should win nine games and even 10 is not out of the question. If Kyron Drones does indeed take the next step, the Hokies will be a major factor in the ACC this season.
