Entering the 2024 college football season, a ton of retainment for Virginia Tech coach Brent Pry has expectations high in Blacksburg. The third-year head coach got a ton of retainment on both sides of the ball and on the defensive side, the Hokies have picked up several key commitments from the transfer portal.

When you think of who could be an x-factor for Virginia Tech, there are several choices where you likely would not go wrong. Offensively, take your pick of players who could be considered, as well as on the defensive side of the ball from players who were on last season's roster. According to one national college football writer, he likes a transfer from over the winter to be the Hokies' x-factor in 2024.

Ari Wasserman tabs Aeneas Peebles as Virginia Tech football 2024 x-factor

Ari Wasserman and Manny Navarro of The Athletic gave their x-factors for each ACC team going into the 2024 season. Wasserman thinks that Duke transfer Aeneas Peebles will end up being Virginia Tech's.

"The Hokies have perhaps the best cornerback tandem in the ACC between Dorian Strong and Mansoor Delane. And they hope to help out their defensive backs by getting better play from the defensive line. In steps D-tackle Aeneas Peebles, a transfer from Duke who had 8.5 tackles for loss and earned third-team All-ACC honors in 2023. "

Virginia Tech's defensive line was good over the final two months of the season and in the Military Bowl against Tulane and they added more depth in the portal, highlighted by Peebles. Also coming to Blacksburg is Kemari Copeland from Iowa Western Community College, Kelvin Gilliam from Oklahoma, and Khurtiss Perry from Alabama.

Another tough and stout defensive line is going to go a long way into the Hokies secondary led by Strong and Delane have another good season. Peebles already has caught some eyes of NFL scouts for the 2025 Draft and it should come as no surprise that he is an x-factor for the 2024 campaign.
