There are going to be some eyes today on the Virginia Tech football team after last week's loss at Miami. The Hokies had a touchdown called on the game's final play when Da'Quan Felton came down with a pass in a slew of players. After a video review and no apparent indisputable evidence, the call was overturned and the Hurricanes escaped with a 38-34 victory.

It's been a long eight days for head coach Brent Pry and his team. On top of recovering from that devastating setback, Virginia Tech has had to make the long trip out West to California to play Stanford in what is the Cardinal's first-ever home ACC game. It's going to be a tough game despite the Hokies being a favorite, but ESPN College GameDay's crew was all-in on Virginia Tech winning the game, except for one of the panel members.

ESPN College GameDay crew nearly unanimous in Virginia Tech beating Stanford

The ESPN College GameDay crew made their weekly picks for today's games and the first game up was Virginia Tech at Stanford and with GameDay being at the University of California in Berkley, the fans were mostly happy. Here is a breakdown of the picks from the crew.

  • Desmond Howard: Virginia Tech
  • Nick Saban: Virginia Tech
  • Marshawn Lynch: Virginia Tech
  • Pat McAfee: Virginia Tech
  • Kirk Herbstreit: Stanford

Former California running back Marshawn Lynch was the guest picker on the set and it was clear that he was picking Virginia Tech, as did Howard, Saban, and McAfee, but Herbstreit is going with the Cardinal.

Herbstreit took Stanford and noted that he thinks the Hokies could be flat after the Miami game. That's understandable and I'm sure he's not the only one who thinks that. Remember, last week he said that it was a catch. This is a big game in terms of saving their season for the Hokies and how they bounce back after the disaster in South Florida last Friday night.
