Beamer Vs. Harbaugh Now it’s Pry Vs. Taylor

Oh, how the mighty have fallen. Once two leaders in NCAA football, the current edition of the Hokies play a game that only diehards will watch.

Once A.C.C royalty, the Virginia Tech Hokies are subjugated to a once was. That is the reality for the Hokies as they travel west to face the Stanford Cardinal. 13 years ago Tech was in a strong position to beat a really good Stanford Cardinal team. They got “pantsed” on national television, and Jimmy Harbaugh started a new career arc.

The Hokies fought the transition period, ultimately failing with Justin Fuente and Stanford hasn’t done much better. On Saturday, the Hokies will battle Stanford. This amounts to two formerly proud units that won’t amount to much nationally. Now it's Brent Pry vs. Troy Taylor in 2024.

"That’s a damn shame. Both schools had a natty in sight. Now, an afterthought."

Roy Hatfield

In that Discover Orange Bowl, both teams were on the upswing. Stanford was white hot, Tech was still relevant. Tech was routinely putting together 10-win seasons. Harbaugh has escaped his Cardinal days, while VT has been mired in a coaching misfire and yet another rebuild. The Hokies have a strong base, but Stanford ain’t chopped liver. Let’s take a look at notable alums. Let’s look at endowment. Stanford wins that battle all day every day.

If the Hokies want to return to greatness, the Hokies need to make a statement on Saturday. Let’s just hope the Hokies play with the fervor they played with on Saturday. If not, we will bow our heads to another young coach from California who showed Tech how to play the game. This is the most important game on Tech’s schedule. It’s going to have to be 1-0 until it isn’t.
