Which Version of Virginia Tech Will We See In Durham?

Your guess is as good as mine. We have been Jekyll and we have been Hyde. I’m not sure which Virginia Tech personality got on the bus in Blacksburg.

Keep one thing in mind before you start reading this article: This season has been a complete disaster. This has been one of the toughest, hardest seasons in my Virginia Tech fandom. I’m a former season ticket holder. I am an N.I.L.. contributor. I pay the school for the privilege of watching this product.

I recognize the fact that the Hokies won’t be playing for a national title. I recognize the Hokies won’t be playing for a conference championship this year or any year in the foreseeable future. I am completely comfortable in entrusting Brent Pry with the keys to the Virginia Tech kingdom. Living in Florida, I’m admittedly not as close to the program as I would like to be. I am completely self-aware that I am not the biggest booster or supporter. With that incredible preamble, I can confidently call it bullcrap. I’ve seen enough. I’ve suffered enough. We all have suffered enough.

We explain it all away. We tell you it’s not the coaches’ fault. We tell you that 5-5 in year three is fine. We are getting fired up to play Duke in football. It’s O.K., Pry and company didn’t mean to. Don’t get me wrong, we have looked good at times. Hell, at times, we have looked outstanding.

Then there are the other crap sandwiches on the menu for the rest of the season. It’s going to happen on Saturday. We will be up by 3, up by 7. It will come then. The defense will allow some kind of explosive play that will ultimately lose the game. Keep in my mind, that Brent Pry is a defensive genius. Is it weird that a defensive genius can’t stop shit through a tin horn? Thank you, Nick Saban.
