One year after missing the NCAA Tournament as the first team left out, the Virginia Tech women's basketball team left no doubt this year on Selection Sunday with a strong February and some key wins in early March.

For most projections, Megan Duffy's team was sitting on the bubble and in the "Last Four In'' group, which meant that they would have had to play in one of the "First Four" games. However, some late wins allowed the Hokies to rest easy on Sunday. Virginia Tech found out its destination on Sunday night, and it is one that is going to be a difficult road for Duffy in her first trip to the field in charge of Tech.

Virginia Tech women's basketball gets nightmare NCAA Tournament draw on Sunday night

The writing was on the wall for the Hokies as to where they were likely going to fall, and it became reality on Sunday night. The Hokies are the ninth seed in Regional 3 - Fort Worth and drew No. 8-seeded Oregon on Friday in Austin, Texas. The winner gets the No. 1 seed, Texas, in the second round, assuming they find a way past the winner of the No. 16 play-in game between Missouri State and Stephen F. Austin in the first round.

Again, all the different projections were pointing toward the Hokies falling into the 8-9 game, and that was the case. Virginia Tech's run starts on Friday, and a tough Ducks team from the Big Ten.

They say the 8-9 game is the worst because it's a tough opponent out of the gate, but if you survive and advance, well, you're going to have the No. 1 seed loaded and ready for you. That is the case for Megan Duffy and her team this year, but hey, at least they're dancing.
