It's been nine days since the Virginia Tech women's basketball team was eliminated in the second round of the ACC Tournament by North Carolina. Second-year head coach Megan Duffy and her team are headed to the NCAA Tournament one year after missing it last year as the first team out.
The Hokies finished 12-6 in the ACC and will be 23-9 when entering the tournament next weekend. After beating Georgia Tech in the second round of the conference tourney, Virginia Tech fell by 17 points to UNC in the quarterfinals. The Tar Heels, it was revealed on Saturday, will host the first weekend of the tournament in Chapel Hill.
Virginia Tech bracketology has women facing daunting task in March Madness
The good news is that the Hokies are going to be in the 68-team field. What might end up being tough news is that their potential assignments might be very difficult tasks, as nothing is easy in March. Three different bracketologies have one thing in common for Duffy's team: a single-digit seed.
According to Charlie Creme at ESPN, he has the Hokies as the No.9 seed playing Tennessee in Storrs, Connecticut, in the first round. The winner would get the No. 1 UConn Huskies in the second round, which is daunting.
CBS Sports also has Virginia Tech as a No. 9 seed, but they have them playing Illinois from the Big Ten in South Carolina, with the winner getting the talented Gamecocks in the second round. A trip to Columbia would be a short one for the Hokies.
USA Today also has Virginia Tech as a No. 9 seed, and like ESPN, they have them as the No. 9 seed and playing Tennessee in Storrs, and that's right, UConn in the second round. All three predictions are going to be tough ones, but everything this time of the year is difficult.
