For a couple of weeks, the Virginia Tech women's basketball team was sitting on the NCAA Tournament bubble with Charlie Creme at ESPN. The Hokies had a golden opportunity to cement their spot in the field last week with a win at home over North Carolina. Leading for a good part of the game, Virginia Tech faltered in the fourth quarter and overtime and fell 66-63.

With two games remaining in the regular season before the ACC Tournament next week, the Hokies did what they needed to do, they beat a pesky Georgia Tech team, 62-51, and now sit at 21-8 with one game remaining at Virginia before the conference tournament. However, the win over the Yellow Jackets moved the Hokies up in Creme's bracketology.

Virginia Tech has had a much better February this season than last year, when they played themselves out of the tournament with some tough losses, including a brutal one at Boston College. A win over Virginia and one win in the ACC Tournament would do wonders for the Hokies' seeding later next month.

CBS Sports isn't as high on the Hokies right now as ESPN. Connor Groel has Virginia Tech playing Arizona State as part of the last four teams in right now. It feels like the Hokies have done enough to at least be off the "Last Four In'' lines, but a win over Virginia should take them off it in Groel's eyes.

The Hokies have a bye this week and won't play until Sunday in Charlottesville. Depending on the results this week and over the weekend, along with Virginia Tech's, the Hokies again looked like they have avoided playing on the opening day of the conference tournament, which is big. Getting a bye on Day 1 is very big in a tournament like that.
