Coming off an overtime loss to North Carolina at home on Thursday night, the Virginia Tech women's basketball team will look to get back on the winning track on Sunday afternoon, when they welcome Georgia Tech to Cassell Coliseum in its final regular-season home game.
After sweeping their West Coast trip last weekend, the Hokies dropped a headbreaker to the Tar Heels on Thursday night. Virginia Tech played great defense through the first three quarters, but couldn't take advantage and build on a lead. UNC hung around, got the game to overtime, and outscored Megan Duffy's team, 9-6 in the extra session for the 66-63 victory.
It would have been a huge win for Virginia Tech in terms of the NCAA Tournament, as a win would have all but locked up their bid. They are still in a good position, but they can't afford to lose on Sunday afternoon to the Yellow Jackets to avoid falling into the First Four games. Virginia Tech closes out the regular-season a week from Sunday in Charlottesville against Virginia.

February was a tough month last year for the Hokies in terms of the NCAA Tournament. They had some tough losses, including one at Boston College in February, which was part of the reason why they missed the 68-team field as the first team left out. This year, they have taken care of business in conference play and have avoided one of those losses so far this month. A loss to Georgia Tech would fall into the category.
Defending Cassell Coliseum is a must. If the Hokies can defend the way they did against UNC and score at a better clip, then they should be fine. Carleigh Wenzel staying out of foul trouble is vital, as she went to the bench in the opening quarter with a pair of fouls. Virginia Tech should get a lot of production on the inside with Kilah Freelon.
