If there is one team that needs to have a strong second half of the 2024 season, it’s Virginia Tech. Beginning the season with a lot of hype and expectations, things have not gone to plan so far with the Hokies starting 3-3 at their first of two byes.

With all the hype and expectations, it feels like this could be another lost season for Virginia Tech, but what would make it tough to deal with is the amount of talent they have. There is a good amount of NFL talent that will play on Sundays in the future at a lot of key positions.

They could not have asked for a better way to start the second half of their schedule, on a Thursday night at Lane Stadium against Boston College. With four of their final six games at Lane, it feels like anything less than 8-4 would be disappointing for the Hokies at this point. With gameday here, here is a prediction for tonight’s battle in Blacksburg.

Virginia Tech vs. Boston College: Odds & Prediction

Over the weekend, Virginia Tech opened up as a 7-point favorite against the Eagles, and again, with how consistent the Hokies have been this season, it’s hard to put money on them with a lot of confidence. BC is a different team than the one that Tech rolled over, 48-22, last November.

Boston College does return quarterback Thomas Castellanos this season and he has been good. Offensively the Eagles have had trouble moving the ball at times, but they have the running game that if they get it going that can eat up a lot of the clock.

Defensively, BC had a huge loss with cornerback Amari Jackson going down with a season-ending ACL injury. He has been their best cornerback and is looking for Virginia Tech to test his replacement. This has the makings of an old-fashioned line up and smashes each other type of game with the Hokies squeaking out a close victory.

Prediction: Virginia Tech 28, Boston College 24
