Boston College suffers devastating loss on defense ahead of Virginia Tech
By Scott Roche
Earlier this week, the injury news was good for the Boston College football team ahead of their Thursday night battle at Virginia Tech. First-year head coach Bill O'Brien said that running back Kye Robichaux was going to play against the Hokies.
Defensively, however, it looks like BC wsn't that lucky ahead of coming to Blacksburg in two days.
Boston College loses CB Amari Jackson to season-ending injury
Boston College boasts one of the top defenses in the ACC and it took a hit Tuesday according to Pete Thamel of ESPN. He reported that cornerback Amari Jackson suffered a torn ACL on Oct. 5 in a 24-14 loss at Virginia.
This is a significant loss for BC as Jackson, a junior, is their top cornerback this season with a team-high five pass deflections, likely slotting a younger player into the Eagles lineup. As far as Virginia Tech is concerned, look for offensive coordinator Tyler Bowen and quarterback Kyron Drones to test the Boston College secondary downfield early in the game.
Virginia Tech has a slew of receivers that can make plays headlined by Jaylin Lane, who has been just as valuable returning punts this season. Bowen has moved Lane around on offense and he scored on a reverse against Miami by using his speed to beat the Hurricanes defenders to the corner and finding the end zone from 25 yards out.
Stephen Gosnell has become a key receiver this season along with his brother Benji at tight end. Ayden Greene was had some key receptions for the Hokies and Da'Quan Felton had a nice catch and run for a touchdown a Stanford two weeks ago. It would be stunning if this doesn't tinker the Hokies game plan in two nights against the Eagles in what is a huge game for both teams.
