The Virginia Tech men's basketball team saw its NCAA Tournament hopes dashed on Tuesday night in the first round of the ACC Tournament in Charlotte. Squarely on the bubble, the Hokies dropped a 95-89 overtime decision to Wake Forest. The loss dropped Mike Young's team to 19-13 and is awaiting a potential NIT bid on Sunday night.
The loss sent the Hokies coach to Blacksburg earlier than anyone wanted. There is going to be a lot of soul-searching for Virginia Tech and head coach Mike Young, along with his staff. Since being eliminated, Young has been recruiting and is looking to pluck a Class of 2026 recruit who recently de-committed from a fellow ACC school.
Virginia Tech in the mix for in-state four-star combo guard who de-committed from BC
Last week, Virginia Tech took down Boston College at home, and it all but ended Earl Grant's tenure in Chestnut Hill. After the Eagles' season came to an end last weekend without another ACC Tournament berth, the school fired Grant. After the firing, four-star combo guard Trey Beamer asked for and got his release from the school after being committed there back in October.
According to Joe Tipton of On3/Rivals, since he de-committed from BC and reopened his recruiting, Virginia Tech and Saint Louis have quickly shown interest in Beamer, who plays at IMG Academy in Florida, and is from Martinsville, Virginia.

Now, where this ends up going remains to be seen. Beamer is a 6-foot-2 three-level scoring combo guard and is the 93rd-ranked player in the Class of 2026 according to Rivals. He is the 3rd-ranked combo guard in his class. This isn't the first time that Virginia Tech has been in the mix for Beamer.
Before he committed to BC, the other schools that were in the mix were Virginia Tech, Mississippi State, Maryland, and South Florida. Considering the real possibility that there is going to be some roster turnover again this offseason, Beamer could come in and make an impact for Young next season. We'll see where this goes.
