Recruiting for Virginia Tech men's basketball coach Mike Young will pick up in a couple of weeks when visits can start. Some players in the Class of 2026 are narrowing down their lists ahead of their senior season and one of those players did so and the Hokies and Young made the cut for the Final 5.

According to Joe Tipton of Rivals, four-star combo guard Trey Beamer, a Martinsville, Va. native, dropped his Final 5 schools with Virginia Tech, Mississippi State, Boston College, South Florida, and Maryland making the cut. The 6-foot-2 Beamer is a Top 100-ranked player according to Rivals and has yet to schedule a visit to Virginia Tech. Something worth noticing here is that Maryland is also in the final five schools, and former Hokies coach Buzz Williams, who landed in College Park after a stint at Texas A&M, will look to land him over his former school. This is worth keeping an eye on.

Virginia Tech football offers Class of 2028 QB

It has been an outstanding start to the Class of 2027 recruiting for Hokies' football coach Brent Pry. Over the last week, he has gotten his first commitment in the rising junior class with a pair of quarterbacks, Ben Musser, and then on Thursday, Class of 2026 signal caller, Cole Bergeron, committed to Virginia Tech, staying on a QB heater.

Now, Pry and Brian Crist are moving forward with a third quarterback, JJ Chapman, in the Class of 2028 after offering him a scholarship. According to Chapman's X account, the Hokies are his third offer after Toledo and Purdue offered him. The Oak Creek, Wisconsin native is certainly a riser and will likely collect more offers, but with Virginia Tech offering him this early, they are hoping to land a signal caller for the third straight class at some point.

Brent Pry credits Jarrett Ferguson with Hokies conditioning

When Pry fired three assistant coaches last December, one position he made a change in was with the strength and conditioning coach, Dwight Galt IV. His replacement was Jarrett Ferguson, and Pry seems thrilled with the job he has done so far.

"We're leaner, but not necessarily lighter,'' said Pry. "(We) look better in our uniforms. We're moving around better. We look like a faster group all in all. We've been able to work harder, a little bit longer, because of the condition we're in."

There are going to be a number of factors that go into just how successful the 2025 season will be or not be for the Hokies, but it appears that their conditioning is going to be top-notch.
