Recruiting continues to be booming for James Franklin and Virginia Tech after he was able to flip a linebacker, Amarri Irvin, from Notre Dame in the Class of 2027. That gives the Hokies two dozen commitments in the class, with more decisions coming soon.
One area where the Hokies have made some traction in recruiting is along the offensive line for second-year coach Matt Moore. However, there is always a need in the trenches for linemen, and on June 23, a Virginia Tech target is set to make his commitment with four other schools in the mix, including Virginia.
Stafford Willis scheduled to make commitment on June 23 with Virginia Tech in the mix
According to 247Sports, the 6-foot-5, 280-pound Stafford Willis is a three-star prospect. The Alabama native will announce his commitment in a week. His Final 5 are down to Virginia Tech, Virginia, UCLA, Alabama, and South Carolina. This is going to be a big race to the end for Franklin, Moore, and the Hokies against SEC and Big powers, along with the Cavaliers.
It should be noted that at the time this article is being written, there are no Crystal Ball predictions for Willis. However, that could change before his commitment and expect it to.
Playing along the offensive line in college can cause position switches for prospects, and that shouldn't affect Willis. He has played both left and right tackle in high school, which should make the transition to the college game easier.
Moore's reputation at his previous stops in producing NFL offensive linemen should be a big selling point for recruits. Of course, there are some other programs that can provide Willis with the same ability, but with what Franklin and his staff are building in Blacksburg, this is a key recruitment with a decision looming. This one is worth Hokies' fans keeping an eye on.
