There are some priority recruits that remain uncommitted in the Class of 2027 for first-year Virginia Tech football coach James Franklin and his staff. After going on a recruiting heater over the last six-plus weeks, it was a tough weekend with recruits committing to other schools.

While that was happening, Franklin and his staff hosted some recruits in Blacksburg in what wasn't as busy a weekend as it had been in past weeks. However, there was one recruit on campus who should be made a priority for Franklin and Brent Pry.

Virginia Tech football in the mix for three-star linebacker CJ Ohuabunaw

Class of 2027 linebacker CJ Ohuabunaw was back in Blacksburg this weekend, but this time for an official visit. He was there back in April for the Hokies' spring game, but this time, he returned, and you can bet the full-court press was on by Franklin and Pry.

The three-star from Norcross, Georgia, plays at Greater Atlanta Christian School and is coming off a strong junior season where he registered 124 tackles, eight for a loss, and a pair of sacks. He also had a forced fumble and had an interception. Two years ago, as a sophomore, he had 66 tackles.

So here's the deal and why Ohunbunaw should be near the top of Franklin's list this cycle. After Noah Renes from Florida ended up committing to Brent Key and Georgia Tech over the Hokies. There is still no linebacker committed to Virginia Tech this cycle. Three-star defensive back Turmarian Moreland from Florida, who the Hokies are looking to play the star position, a hybrid role of linebacker and defensive back responsibilities.

If Virginia Tech is going to get a commitment, then they are going to earn it, as the other schools involved in the mix for Ohunbunaw are Florida State, Kansas, Louisville, and the Hokies. He is scheduled to visit FSU next weekend. Mike Norvell and the Seminoles picked up a commitment from Jaxon Hollt, an edge in the Class of 2027, on Sunday over the Hokies and Auburn.
