It's safe to say that the 2025 Virginia Tech men's and women's soccer seasons did not end the way either had hoped. One year after a run to the Elite Eight, the women won just four games and went winless in the ACC. The men went 7-4-5 and missed out on an NCAA Tournament berth after some bad losses and bad ties.
Both squads are looking ahead to bigger and brighter things in 2026 in Blacksburg. We are a couple of weeks into both teams' seasons, and the month of August was kind to both programs, which are looking to get sharp ahead of ACC play beginning this month.
Virginia Tech men's and women's soccer both have a strong start to 2026 season in August
So far, so good for both teams on the pitch. Through August, they went a combined 6-1-2 on the field, with the women going 4-0-2 and the men 2-1-0. The women started their season a week earlier than the men did, but things will even out in terms of games as the season goes along, before the regular season ends in early November, before the ACC Tournament.
As for the women, they are 4-0-2 and have scored 17 goals and allowed seven. Anna Weir is back and leads the Hokies with five goals and two assists in six games. Gabby Ciocca, Eliana Salama, and Riley Karpinski each have two. Transfer Julianna Trujillo has been solid in the net with nine saves on 15 shots. On Sunday, Virginia Tech picked up a Top 25 road win at No. 22 Georgetown, 3-1.
As for the men, they opened the season with a very difficult road match at Ohio State and fell, 1-0, on a second-half goal from the Buckeyes off a corner kick. Since then, Virginia Tech has shut out Howard, 7-0, and Kentucky, 3-0. The Hokies are going to count on their defense earlier in the season, and so far, they have yet to allow a goal in the run of play.
The women have two more tough non-conference matches before ACC play begins, and both are against Big Ten teams. They already tied with a Big Ten team, Maryland, 2-2 on Aug. 23, and will visit Penn State on Thursday and host Illinois on Sunday.
As for the men, they go right into ACC play on Saturday night when they travel to Raleigh for a 6 o'clock match against North Carolina State.
