Things have gotten insane recently when it comes to former college players who have signed professional contracts with the NFL or NBA and are looking to return to college. Once you sign a contract as a pro, you should be done with college eligibility. Now conferences are looking to put their foot down, including the ACC.
The ACC joined the rest of the other power conferences after the board of directors had unanimously adopted a resolution directing the league's commissioner, Jim Phillips, to enforce eligibility requirements for athletes looking to return to the college game. Good for the conferences for putting their foot down.

Former Virginia Tech tight end Dae'Quan Felton was in camp with the Philadelphia Eagles and Cleveland Browns before most recently being released by Cleveland. He entered the Transfer Portal and is looking to reunite with former Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin at LSU. Once a professional contract is signed, your college career should be over.
Virginia Tech adds 2028 football opponent
The 2026 Hokies football season gets underway in one week on Sept. 7 when VMI visits Lane Stadium to begin the James Franklin era. Next season, Virginia Tech will begin the 2027 season by hosting The Citadel. On Friday, the school announced who their season-opening 2028 foe will be,
Virginia Tech will begin the 2028 season by hosting Gardner-Webb. It will be the third straight season that begins with an FCS opponent. This is rubbing some people the wrong way, but if we're being honest, a lot of teams are doing it early in the season. It just isn't Virginia Tech.
Men's basketball gets Charleston matchups
Back in the spring, it was announced that the Hokies men's basketball team was going to take part in the 2026 Charleston Classic in what is going to be a showcase rather than a regular tournament. As far as the Hokies go, they get a pair of interesting matchups against power conference schools.
According to Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports, Virginia Tech will play Oklahoma State and Northwestern as part of their two showcase games. Transfer Jaylen Curry, who came over from Oklahoma State, will be matched up against his former school.

- The Hokies women's soccer team improved to 3-0-2 on the season with a 3-1 victory on the road over William & Mary. Virginia Tech got all three goals from Anna Weir, and it was the 15th hat trick in program history. She leads the team with five goals in five games. The Hokies, who outshot the Tribe 16-7, will visit Georgetown for a non-conference match on Sunday afternoon at 1.
- The Hokies men's soccer team improved to 2-1-0 with a 3-0 win over Kentucky at Thompson Field. Virginia Tech got goals in the 12th minute from Noe Uwimana, in the 74th minute from Parker Polk, and in the 88th minute on a penalty kick from Yanis Belatrache. The Hokies travel to North Carolina State for their next match on Sept. 5 at 7 p.m.
- It was a split decision for the Hokies' volleyball team in their season opener at home in the Hokies Invitational. After beating Kent State, 3-0, Virginia Tech fell in five sets to William & Mary. The Hokies will host Coppin State on Saturday at 3.
