It's been a quiet spring transfer portal for the Virginia Tech football team in terms of getting commitments. The latest was Wednesday, when North Dakota State tackle Kody Huisman committed to Brent Pry. On Thursday, a key portal target from Purdue, Hudson Miller, visited with the Hokies.
The Boilermakers' linebacker had a breakout 2024 season for a team that won just one game. Miller had 42 tackles, 28 solo, and a half sack. Facing some of the top teams in the Big Ten and the country, Miller was able to take his game to another level as a sophomore. The Hokies have some talented linebackers returning, but Miller would be a nice depth addition. Miller is reportedly visiting Ohio on Friday after making a stop at Toledo on Wednesday.
Football gets another OL commit from West Virginia through the portal
When Pry hired Matt Moore from West Virginia to replace Ron Crook of the Hokies' new offensive line coach, there were some questions as to whether or not some of his players from Morgantown would follow him to Blacksburg. That's exactly what has happened.

On Thursday, Gavin Crawford from Maryland committed to the Hokies to become the fourth offensive lineman from West Virginia to follow Moore to Virginia Tech, joining Lucas Austin, Tomas Rimac, and Kyle Altuner. In reality, before Bob Schick entered the portal earlier this week, the Hokies needed all the help they could get through the portal, and Crawford provides them with a player Moore knows very well.
Davi Belfort commits to UCF
Last week, redshirt freshman quarterback Davi Belfort entered the transfer portal after the Hokies' spring game. On Thursday, he announced that he is committed to Central Florida in the Big 12, meaning he'll return to his home state to continue his college career. His exit from Blacksburg means it would be wise of Pry to add another QB during this portal cycle.
Softball heads West to California
After dropping two out of three games last weekend at Pittsburgh in what was a disappointing weekend, the Hokies softball team heads West to California to play the Golden Bears in their first meeting as ACC opponents. Cal won't be an easy matchup as they are 7-11 in the conference and 31-16 overall. This is a must-bounce-back for Tech.
Baseball heads to Duke
Things are starting to come down the stretch for the Hokies baseball team as we enter the last weekend in April, Virginia Tech heads to Durham this weekend for a rather big three-game series against Duke. Currently projected to be in the NCAA Tournament field, John Szefc's team enters this series off a 6-5 win over VCU on Tuesday night, but they have dropped five of their last six ACC games. Winning this series is a must for Tech.
Women's lacrosse falls in ACC Tournament
The Hokies women's lacrosse team fell to powerhouse North Carolina, 19-9, in the ACC Tournament quarterfinals. With a record of 9-9 after the loss, Virginia Tech has an RPI of 27 and will await to see if they get selected for the NCAA Tournament on May 4 during the selection show.
