So far, it has been a mixed bag of results for Virginia Tech women's basketball coach Megan Duffy in terms of retention for the 2026-27 season. Carleigh Wenzel, Aniya Trent, and Amani Jenkins are all coming back next season. There is still a decision that is needed for Carys Baker.

One player we know who is leaving Blacksburg is sophomore Kayl Petersen. The Wisconsin native spent her first two seasons at Virginia Tech, but with limited playing time this past season, she is going to find a new home for next season. On Friday, it was reported that another member of this past season's Hokies team, Sophie Swanson, will be entering the Transfer Portal.

Swanson came to Virginia Tech last season through the portal from Purdue, and she didn't see as much time as she thought she might with the Hokies. She averaged 2.3 points this season in 21 games and shot 26.2% from the field and just 18.9% from behind the arc.

Softball evens series with Clemson

After dropping the opener of their three-game series with Clemson on Thursday night, 4-2, the Hokies softball bounced back and evened the series on Friday night, 9-1, in five innings. It sets up the rubber match on Saturday night at Tech Softball Park.

Michelle Chatfield had a three-run home run in the bottom of the third for a 5-0 lead. Clemson got a run back on a Taylor Pipkins home run before Kylie Aldridge answered with a solo home run for a 6-1 lead. Tech ended the game with three more runs after Aldridge's home run to pick up the run-rule victory.

Bree Carrico was the winning pitcher, improving to 10-0 after allowing one run on three hits over five innings with four strikeouts and four walks. The Hokies improved to 32-5 overall and 8-3 in ACC play.
