After the men's basketball championship game on Monday night, the Transfer Portal officially opened at midnight. It was announced that some men's and women's players were going to enter the portal from Virginia Tech.
Both Megan Duffy and Mike Young are suffering some big losses this spring, with Duffy already getting a commitment from Tennessee transfer Alyssa Latham. On Tuesday, Duffy got some retention from one player, Samyha Suffren.
The Hokies women's basketball X account posted on Tuesday morning that Suffren is returning to Virginia Tech in 2026-27. After having her 2024-25 season cut short with an injury, Suffren had a major bounce-back season. In 32 games, she averaged just over 20 minutes with 8.8 points, 3.3 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 1.5 steals a game.
On the men's side, Young suffered another loss, and truthfully, this one wasn't surprising. Center Antonio Dorn is entering the portal. He played in 24 games and averaged just 2.6 points and 1.8 rebounds a game. Dorn is a good rebounder, but his offensive game could use some work. Guard Brett Freeman is also entering the portal.
Virginia Tech softball beats Radford
After taking two out of three over the weekend at home against Clemson, the Hokies softball team hit the road ahead of their upcoming weekend showdown at Virginia by beating Radford, 7-2. The win improved the 12th-ranked Hokies to 34-5.
Virginia Tech hit three home runs with Addison Foster, Michelle Chatfield and Kylie Aldridge all left the yard. Avery Layton was the winning pitcher working five innings in the circle, scattering three hits, allowing one run and striking out four. Sophie Kleiman pitched the final two innings.
Virginia Tech baseball loses again
After a promising start to the season, the Virginia Tech baseball season is spiraling out of control. The Hokies dropped to 15-16 with an 11-4 non-conference loss at home to Liberty. Virginia Tech heads to Boston College this weekend for another ACC series.
