Despite having a number of players eligible to return for the 2025-26 season, there is bound to be turnover for head coach Megan Duffy and the Virginia Tech women's basketball team.

Seniors Kilah Freelon and Mel Daley, who both played one year in Blacksburg after coming over through the Transfer Portal last spring, are out of eligibility. Both were key parts to the 2025-26 team that was able to reach the NCAA Tournament and bounced in the first round against Oregon two weeks ago.

Duffy has turned her attention to the 2026-27 season, and she will do so without Kayl Petersen, who is entering the Transfer Portal after two seasons at Virginia Tech. Duffy has some work to do, and on Wednesday night, she picked up a commitment from a Tennessee transfer.

Graduate transfer Alyssa Latham committed to Virginia Tech on Wednesday. She was allowed to transfer and commit before the portal opens next Tuesday because she is a graduate transfer.

This past season, Latham played in 27 games and averaged 19.1 minutes a night with 4.7 points and 3.4 rebounds for the Lady Volunteers. She began her career at Syracuse, and in 32 games for the Orange, she averaged 27.6 minutes a game, 8.6 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 1.2 steals a game. She started 26 games for Syracuse that season, and she earned ACC All-Freshman Team honors that year.

In Tennessee's first-round loss at the hands of North Carolina State in the NCAA Tournament, Latham played 16 minutes and had two points and five rebounds.

Latham is a good addition to the front court for Virginia Tech next season. As to who she'll be playing with remains to be seen. Duffy did a nice job adding transfers last season to the mix, and Latham should come in and help right away at both ends of the floor.
