Wednesday, the spring transfer portal opened for college football. After a very busy winter window, things are slowly pickup again for Virginia Tech and head coach Brent Pry.

Quarterback Davi Belfort and offensive lineman Web Davidson entered the portal, followed by walk-on Caleb Nitta. On Thursday, the Hokies' defense took a double hit for the first time this portal cycle when twin brothers, linebacker Jayden and Jorden McDonald, entered with one year of eligibility remaining.

McDonald, who hails from Salem, Virginia, committed to Virginia Tech as a defensive back, but after one season, he transitioned to linebacker, where he played most of his time in Blacksburg. He played in two games last season before suffering an injury that cost him the rest of his season.

Joining Jayden in the portal is his brother, redshirt senior defensive linemen Jorden. That will open some roster spots for the portal this spring, and expect Pry and his staff to address some needs through there.

Softball has winning streak snapped by Pittsburgh

Riding a 17-game winning streak, the No. 11-ranked Virginia Tech softball team hit the road for a three-game series at Pittsburgh. The Panthers, who entered the game at 4-14 in league play, stunned the Hokies, 7-6, in the opener on Thursday night in nine innings.

Kylie Aldridge led the way for Virginia Tech with three hits and an RBI. Jordan Lynch had two hits and two RBI and Cori McMillan blasted a solo home run. With bad weather expected in the Pittsburgh area this weekend, the two teams will square off in a doubleheader on Friday, moving Saturday's game up a day.

Baseball to host North Carolina

After winning three straight ACC series, the Hokies baseball team returned home last weekend and was swept by Florida State in a humbling series. The Hokies hit the road and picked up a huge mid-week road victory over East Tennessee State University. Now, things will get tougher this weekend when they host another ranked ACC foe.

No. 12 North Carolina, which boasts a loaded pitching staff, will make the trip to Blacksburg for a three-game weekend series that begins Friday beginning at 6 o'clock. Game 2 is Saturday at 3 o'clock and the series finale is on Easter Sunday at 1 o'clock.
