So far this off-season, Virginia Tech men's basketball coach Mike Young has been making additions to not only the roster but also his staff. He brought back assistant coach Chester Frazier from West Virginia. Young's first portal commitment was Amani Hansberry from West Virginia, and the Morgantown to Blacksburg connection continued on Tuesday night.
Virginia Tech announced that they were hiring Nelson Hernandez, who spent this past season as the director of player personnel/recruiting at West Virginia. This past season for the Mountaineers, he helped to build a 19-13 record overall and a 10-10 Big 12 record. In the end, this is a vital move for Young and the Hokies.
Baseball rolls past ETSU
After getting swept by Florida State at home this past weekend, the Virginia Tech baseball team hit the road for a mid-week game at East Tennessee State University. This was a must bounce-back game for the Hokies, with a three-game series in Blacksburg looming this coming weekend against North Carolina.
As they have done multiple times this season, the Hokies were able to bounce back in a mid-week game with an 11-4 victory over the Buccaneers to improve to 24-13 heading into the series against UNC. Henry Cooke and Ben Watson went deep to power the offense, while Ethan Gibson, Hudson Lutterman, Watson, and Nick Locutro each drove in two runs for Virginia Tech.
Football recruit impressed following visit
Over the weekend and on Monday, Hokies football coach Brent Pry picked his second and third Class of 2026 commitments. On Sunday, he got a commitment from kicker Will Love, and on Monday, in-state linebacker Joshua Pittman committed. Virginia Tech is trending for another in-state recruit in the class, and he came away impressed following a visit over the weekend.
Defensive lineman JaySean Richardson, who is from Richmond, told 247Sports after his visit that “he was impressed with how (Coach Siefkes) said he’ll use me.’’ A highly sought-after player, Richardson has an official visit scheduled to Virginia Tech on June 20, and two weeks earlier, he’ll be in Charlottesville for a visit with Virginia. This could come down to the Hokies and Cavaliers in his recruiting.
