Last week, former Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck and program general manager fired head coach Troy Taylor amid findings by two outside firms that he had bullied and belittled female athletic staffers. The timing is late and leaves the program in a tough spot for the 2025 season.
On Monday, the school announced Taylor's replacement when they hired Frank Reich for the upcoming season. The 63-year-old Reich coached Luck with the Indianapolis Colts. Luck is thrilled to bring Reich on board and lead the Cardinal this fall.
"I could not be more excited for our coaches, staff, and players," Luck said. "I have experienced first-hand the incredible impact Frank has demonstrated as a leader and have full confidence he is the perfect steward for this season of Stanford football.''
Last season, Virginia Tech went to Stanford and rolled over the Cardinal, 31-7, in October in front of a rather small gathering. This season, the Hokies will not meet Stanford, but it'll be interesting to see what Reich does in a short time in Northern California.
Virginia Tech transfer commits to High Point
Former Hokies wing Jaydon Young entered the transfer portal after this season and it didn't take long for the North Carolina native to find a new home. On Monday night, Young committed to High Point, returning to his hometown state to continue his career.

Young has an opportunity to make a major impact for the Panthers next season after really coming along in the second half of the season. He dropped 27 points in a win at Miami and 26 in an overtime win against Syracuse. He had 12 points in Virginia Tech's season-ending loss to California in the ACC Tournament last month.
Virginia Tech baseball and softball combine for history
What a weekend it was one the diamond for the Hokies baseball and softball teams. Both teams pulled off a series sweep for the first time in school history against ranked teams.
In Blacksburg, the softball team swept Stanford in a Top 25 series that included three instant classic games. On Saturday, the Hokies turned a triple play in the top of the fifth inning and then scored five runs in the bottom of the inning for an 8-5 lead, then held off a Cardinal rally for a one-run win. On Sunday, the Hokies rallied multiple times to pull out a 6-5 win when Cori McMillan launched a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh to walk it off. Virginia Tech improved to 28-5 with the sweep.
In Winston-Salem, the Hokies baseball team swept a series from Wake Forest in dramatic fashion. After winning by the run rule on Friday night, the Hokies won Game 2, 11-8, on Saturday. Sunday night, the sweep looked like a dream after the Demon Deacons scored a pair of two-out runs in the bottom of the seventh for a 3-2 lead. Not so fast. Virginia Tech plated four runs in the top of the ninth and withstood a Wake Forest rally in the bottom of the inning for a 6-5 win. What a weekend for the Hokies and their fans.
