Going into their three-game weekend ACC series at home against Stanford, the Virginia Tech softball team was looking to win another series. The 12th-ranked Hokies and 16th-ranked Cardinal put together a great three days of softball, and Virginia Tech proved that they are going to be a difficult out in the conference this season.
After winning the first two games, 4-3 on Friday night and 8-7 on Saturday afternoon, the Hokies were looking for a sweep of their first-year ACC foe. In a back-and-forth game, something that each game was this weekend, Virginia Tech completed the sweep dramatically when Cori McMillan launched a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh to break a 5-5 tie.

For the second straight day, Virginia Tech used that momentum on defense to tie the game in the bottom of the next inning when Rachel Castine launched a solo home run just inside the foul pole in left field for a 5-5 game, setting the stage for McMillan's game-winning blast two innings later.
Kylie Aldridge had a two-run homer in the bottom of the fourth inning for the Hokies to tie the game at 2-2 at the time. Emma Mazzarone picked up the win, working the final 2.2 innings, allowing just two hits and striking out two. Virginia Tech, which improved to 28-5 overall and 8-1 in the ACC, will host Liberty on Wednesday night in a Top 25 matchup before heading to North Carolina State next weekend for a three-game ACC series.
