Going into the 2024 season, hopes were high around the Hokies program with all the retainment they got from the 2023 roster. Things went downhill in Week 1 with an overtime loss at Vanderbilt and things just snowballed from there to a disappointing 6-6 season for the second consecutive year.

Last week, athletic director Whit Babcock gave a vote of confidence to head coach Brent Pry and he said that the two were going to sit down and discuss the program. After the Hokies beat Virginia, 37-17, to become bowl-eligible for the second straight year and just a few minutes after welcoming the Class of 2025 to Blacksburg, Pry met with the media and said that he was hoping to keep his coaching staff intact for 2025. That is not going to be the case.

Virginia Tech coach Brent Pry parts ways with three coaches

Thursday night, Virginia Tech released a statement that Pry was letting go of three coaches, defensive coordinator/linebackers coach Chris Marve, offensive line coach Ron Crook, and senior director of strength and conditioning Dwight Galt IV. In the statement, Pry released the following,

"I appreciate the work Coach Marve, Coach Crook and Coach Galt have put into Virginia Tech football. They are great men who, alongside their families, have poured into our university and our student-athletes. However, our on-field results have not met our standards. As head coach, it is my responsibility to make the necessary changes to restore this program to its rightful place among college football’s best and deliver the success Hokie Nation deserves."

Marve and Galt were part of Pry's first staff in 2022 and Crook came on in 2023, but the results that happened this season forced changes to be made. You have to think that Pry's seat going into next season is getting warmer as well, along with offensive coordinator Tyler Bowen.
