Recruiting in the Class of 2026 has been a struggle for Virginia Tech football coach Brent Pry. He has had two four-star commits bail and de-commit to land elsewhere.

The class is lacking skill in some position players, and Pry had one quarterback commit, Peyton Falzone, but after committing in June of 2024, he de-committed last November before landing at Penn State, then de-committed from there and landed in the SEC at Auburn.

Virginia Tech still doesn't have a signal caller committed in the Class of 2026, as Falzone was the only one. On Thursday, the Hokies picked up a QB commitment in the class from Louisiana.

Three-star QB Cole Bergeron commits to Virginia Tech

First-year offensive coordinator Philip Montgomery landed his first quarterback commit when Class of 2027 signal caller Ben Musser committed last week. Now, Pry has landed another Class of 2026 quarterback commit when three-star Cole Bergeron committed to the Hokies.

Bergeron worked out for Virginia Tech this summer, and since then, Pry, Montgomery, and QB coach Brian Crist have been pushing for the 6-foot-4.5, 210-pounder. According to 247Sports, Bergeron is the 27th-ranked QB in his class and the 14th-ranked prospect in Louisiana.

Bergeron held nine scholarship offers and picked Virginia Tech over Colorado and Georgia Tech. Securing a commitment from Bergeron is a rather big addition to the class, as it gives Pry a key piece of the class and is a nice replacement for Falzone. Bergeron has a big arm, and according to 247Sports scouting analyst Gabe Brooks, he is a "big-framed pro-style quarterback."

"Big-framed pro-style quarterback with a corresponding big arm that shows in downfield vertical passing game juice and short-to-intermediate velocity. Excellent timing and touch passer who knows how to throw to spots to allow only his receivers to make plays on the ball. Smooth, repeatable release fosters consistent spiral and RPMs."

This is a huge addition to the class for Virginia Tech, as it is a step in the right direction for the future of the program.
