On Monday, James Franklin and some athletes met with the media to discuss last Saturday's rout of Old Dominion and this weekend's upcoming game at Maryland, in what is the first true road test for the Hokies away from Lane Stadium.
One student-athlete who spoke with the media was Troy transfer Jaquez White, and he was asked about Terrapins quarterback Malik Washington, someone whom Virginia Tech heavily recruited, and, well, let's just say that White gave the sophomore some bulletin board material.
He's a pretty good quarterback,'' White said. "He has a decent arm. I don't really think he's that accurate, but I mean, he's pretty good. He's not a runner. He’s looking to throw the ball every time.“
On Tuesday, Maryland coach Mike Locksley and Washington met with the media and of course, Washington was asked about White's comments and responded the way that was expected, he took the high road.
“Just ready to play football,'' said Washington. "That’s all I got.”
That might be all he had on Tuesday, but on Saturday night, you can bet he'll have more to say on the field and expect some balls thrown White's way.
Another Virginia Tech leadership addition
New Hokies athletic director Brian White has been adding around him in the department, and he's adding familiar names and faces. Chris Ryder has been hired to oversee capital projects, facilities, and operations. He comes from Florida Atlantic, where he'll join White in Blacksburg.
