Throughout the history of the Virginia Tech football program, several talented defensive backs have come through Blacksburg and gone on to have successful NFL careers. One of them spent three years at Virginia Tech and blossomed into a talented player who played just three years before declaring for the 2016 NFL Draft.

Former Hokies defensive back Kendall Fuller, who was selected by Washington in the draft, headlines the most recent Virginia Tech Sports Hall of Fame class for 2025. If there is someone who belongs, it’s Fuller.

In 29 games for Virginia Tech, he registered 119 tackles, 27 pass breakups, and eight interceptions from 2013-15. After leaving Blacksburg, Fuller has played for the Commanders, Kansas City Chiefs, and Miami Dolphins. He collected a Super Bowl ring in Super Bowl LIV when the Chiefs beat the San Francisco 49ers. Last season, he had 50 tackles for the Dolphins. Fuller was a 2013 ACC Defensive Rookie of the Year, and he was a second-team All-American in 2014.

The rest of the former Virginia Tech athletes who are also going into the Hall of Fame includes  Kaylea Arnett (women's diving), Kevin Barker (baseball), Devin Carter (wrestling), Erick Green (men's basketball), Courtney Liddle Barbour (softball) and Scott Vincent (men's golf).

Green had a tremendous career in Blacksburg, and in 2012-13, he averaged 25 points a game to be the first Virginia Tech player to receive the ACC Player of the Year honors. He would go on to become a second-round pick of the Utah Jazz in the 2013 NBA Draft.

Virginia Tech football announces kickoff times for three games

Earlier this month, the kickoff time for the Virginia Tech football season-opener against South Carolina in Atlanta was announced on Aug. 31 as a stand-alone 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon kickoff. Thursday, the school announced kickoff times for three home games, which will be played under the lights of Lane Stadium.

The much-anticipated rematch against Vanderbilt on Sept. 6, six days after playing the Gamecocks, will kick off at 7:30 p.m. One week later, the Hokies will play Old Dominion under the lights at 7, then in October, their weeknight game in Blacksburg this year will kick off on the 24th against California on a Friday night at 7:30 on ESPN.

ACC baseball coach making the jump to the SEC?

The NCAA Baseball Tournament begins Friday, and one school that was left on the outside looking in was Virginia. One year after getting to the College World Series in Omaha, the Cavaliers saw their season end after an early exit from the ACC Tournament, and now, they could be on the verge of losing their big-name coach.

Kendall Rogers of D1Baseball reported that Mississippi State is looking to hire Brian O’Connor from Virginia for their vacant position. That would be a giant hire for the Bulldogs and a major hit to Virginia and the ACC. O’Connor’s history at UVA speaks for itself.
