On Monday, the NCAA Baseball Tournament brackets were released for the 64-team field, and the ACC got nine teams in. Three schools, North Carolina, Clemson, and Florida State are National Seeds and will host this upcoming weekend in their home stadiums.
The other six teams to get in were North Carolina State, Louisville, Wake Forest, Duke, Georgia Tech, and Miami. If there is one team that has a gripe about the seeding, it's Georgia Tech which won the regular season title but still was not a Top 16 seed, giving way to some SEC schools.
As far as Virginia Tech goes, they missed the tournament, again, after struggling over the second half of the season. Injuries aside, the Hokies still had enough talent to get in, but finished 31-25 overall and six games under .500 in the ACC. One school missing the field with Tech is Virginia, and it's not sitting well with the fan base. Miami got the final ACC nod over the Cavaliers, and upset Virginia fans are failing to realize that we are living in the new world of RPI.
Miami's RPI was 41 while Virginia's was 64. Heck, even Virginia Tech had a better RPI at No. 54. If there is one school that might have a beef, it's Notre Dame with an RPI of 48, but don't get eliminated in the first round of the ACC Tournament against Boston College. Oh, the same could be said for Virginia as well.
As for ACC teams with a shot to get to Omaha and the College World Series, North Carolina looks like a team that could go on a deep run and never count out a very talented Florida State team, who could be looking at a Super Regional at Oregon State. That won't be easy.
Virginia Tech started making some offseason moves this past weekend, and there needs to be plenty more including roster upgrades if they are going to see their name come across the TV next Memorial Day when the 2026 brackets are released.
