We are in the middle of the second week of February and things are heating up with all sports. The softball team is coming off a perfect weekend and looking ahead to another big weekend, the baseball team starts this weekend, and the women's lacrosse team is ready for their home opener. Then there is recruiting for football and the Class of 2026 and that's where we'll begin this edition of Virginia Tech Hokies News.
Football trending for talented edge in Class of 2026
Class of 2026 three-star edge Manny Lewis is generating a lot of interest on the recruiting trail. The North Carolina native has picked up a bunch of offers, including one from Virginia Tech. Lewis told 247Sports that the Hokies are setting the bar early. He's been to two games already and Enter Sandman "gave him goosebumps."
He is planning on taking an official. visit to Virginia Tech, but also James Madison and East Carolina. Lewis is the 33rd-ranked edge rusher in the country and the No. 21 player in the state of North Carolina according to 247Sports.
Softball postponed, gearing up for huge weekend
After beginning the season with five wins last weekend in the Charleston Invitational, the Hokies softball team had their game Tuesday against Elon postponed because of the weather. After outsourcing their opponents 50-0 in five games and getting a perfect game from Emma Lemley, who was named ACC pitcher of the week in the circle, Virginia Tech is facing the first of two bid weekends in SEC territory.

At the Purple & Gold Classic at LSU, the Hokies will play five more, two against UT-Arlington and LSU and one against Northwestern. The last two games of the weekend against LSU are going to be big and both will be broadcast on the SEC Network.
Womenβs lacrosse opens the home portion of the schedule
After opening the season with an impressive 15-7 win at VCU on Saturday afternoon, the Hokies womenβs lacrosse team will open the home portion of their schedule on Wednesday night at Thomspn Field against James Madison at 3:30 p.m.
