The Virginia Tech men's basketball team picked up its biggest win of the season on Wednesday night with a 76-66 road win over No. 20 Clemson. It was a Quad 1 win in terms of the NCAA Tournament résumé the Hokies are trying to build and get on the right side of the bubble.

The next task for Mike Young and his team is to try to avoid a letdown on Saturday afternoon when they host Florida State at Cassell Coliseum. The Seminoles are playing their best basketball of the season and will pose a tougher challenge for Virginia Tech than they would have earlier this year. Assuming they take care of business against FSU, the remaining road schedule offers more Quad 1 opportunities for Mike Young's team.

Virginia Tech will close out the month of February with a very tough task on the road when they head to Chapel Hill to play North Carolina. When they play the Tar Heels, there is a chance that they will be missing their top player. Freshman Caleb Wilson is going to be out with a broken hand, the school announced on Thursday. He was injured in their loss on Tuesday night in Miami. This is a big loss for UNC, which is fighting for seeding in both the ACC and NCAA Tournaments next month.

Virginia Tech wrestling hosts two big matches

Fresh off winning the Commonwealth Clash last weekend on the road in Charlottesville against Virginia, the sixth-ranked Hokies wrestling team will host a pair of big matches this weekend. First up is No. 13 North Carolina on Friday at 8 p.m. On Sunday, eighth-ranked Oklahoma State will visit for a non-conference match at 2 p.m. A great weekend of wrestling is on tap in Blacksburg.

Baseball and softball spring into action

The Hokies baseball team will kick off the 2026 season this weekend, hosting William & Mary in a non-conference three-game series. Friday's game will be at 3 p.m., before a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 and 4 p.m. There will be no game on Sunday.

As for the Hokies softball team, they will take their 5-0 record to Charlotte this weekend to play in the Queen City Classic. Virginia Tech will play Villanover and Michigan State on Friday, Villanova and Charlotte on Saturday, and Michigan State on Sunday. Another tough five games.
