There were a ton of official visits this past weekend to Virginia Tech, and football coach Brent Pry has some busy times ahead. While most of the visits to Blacksburg were official visits, one recruit made an unofficial visit, but will be taking an official one in the coming weeks.
Six-foot-4 tight end Kentrell White from Atlanta, Georgia, had his unofficial visit to Blacksburg Monday, and while on campus, he set up an official visit for June 20. It appears that Virginia Tech, UNLV, and Auburn are his final three with no timetable for a decision. Virginia Tech already has a wide receiver in the class, but a tight end addition would be huge.
One ACC team makes it to Omaha
Entering the Super Regionals last weekend, the ACC had five teams, the most from any conference, playing, but when the dust settled, it was a disappointing weekend for the conference. The lone ACC school to punch its ticket to Omaha this year was Louisville, beating Miami in three games.
North Carolina dropped the last two games against Arizona after winning the opener, while Duke dropped a deciding Game 3 at home to Murray State on Monday night. Florida State dropped Game 3 at Oregon State, but they may end up having a long offseason after blowing a late lead in Game 1. Win that game, and after taking Game 2, the Seminoles missed a golden opportunity to head to the College World Series for a second straight year.
Virginia hires new baseball coach
Right after Mississippi State was eliminated from the NCAA Baseball Tournament last weekend at Florida State, it didn't take long for the Bulldogs to name their next coach, hiring Virginia's Brian O'Connor. Virginia didn't go far to hire their next head coach in Charlottesville.
Less than 24 hours after Duke was eliminated from the Super Regionals by Murray State, Kendall Rogers of D1Baseball reported that Virginia was hiring Chris Pollard. During his time in Durham, Pollard brought the Blue Devils to four Super Regionals and several other NCAA Tournament trips.
