This weekend is going to be a busy weekend for Virginia Tech athletics. The men's basketball team will host Virginia in the second and final edition of the Commonwealth Clash and they are looking for a season sweep. The women's basketball team has their bye and will not play on Sunday. The softball team will head to LSU for a big weekend and the baseball team will kick off their season at home and that's where we'll begin this edition of Virginia Tech Hokies News.
Baseball opens at home vs. Bucknell
The Hokies baseball team will begin their season at home this weekend against Bucknell in a three-game non-conference series. There has been a switch to the schedule and because of the weather, they will play a doubleheader on Friday beginning at 1 p.m., then the series final will be on Sunday. Brent Renfrow will get the ball in the opener for Virginia Tech.
Softball heads to LSU
Fresh off of five wins last weekend in Charleston, the Hokies softball team heads to LSU this weekend for five more games, including ending the weekend with two games against the host Tigers. Virginia Tech will play two games against UT-Arlington and one against Northwestern before playing LSU on Saturday night and then they will close out the weekend on Sunday with the final game.
Wrestling hosts Pitt
Coming off an impressive win at Stanford last weekend, the Hokies wrestling team will return home Friday night for an ACC match with Pittsburgh at 7 p.m. It will be broadcast on the ACC Network Extra.
Lacrosse to host Mercer
Wednesday, the women’s lacrosse team dropped a 15-11 decision to No. 22 James Madison at home. The Hokies held an 11-9 lead entering the final quarter only to have the Dukes take over. On Saturday, Virginia Tech (1-1) will host Mercer in another non-conference game.
