After Carnell Warren de-committed from Virginia Tech last week, it was a tough blow for head coach Brent Pry. Since that happened, the Hokies have picked up three commitments in the Class of 2026 in five days to bring the number to five and slowly close in on Wake Forest for the bottom spot in the ACC.
This weekend will be another busy weekend in Blacksburg for visitors, but one who was planning on visiting canceled his visit and is no longer considering Virginia Tech. According to Tim Thomas of The Tech Lunch Pail, four-star wide receiver Travis Johnson is no longer coming, which is another recruiting blow in what is turning into a number of them. Johnson is the second player scheduled to visit this weekend who has canceled his trip.
Four-star defensive back Andre Clark, Jr., out of Richmond, also canceled his visit ahead of his upcoming decision between Kentucky, Miami, Florida State, and SMU.
College Football Playoff goes back to the drawing board
Last season was the first season of the new 12-team College Football Playoff, with Ohio State beating Notre Dame for the title. Since that January night, there has been discussion surrounding the 2026 CFP, and according to Brett McMurphy, it's back to the drawing board for the conference commissioners.
The Big Ten and SEC wanted four automatic qualifiers, with two each coming from the Big 12 and ACC. As you would expect, it was met with a lot of pushback from a lot of people after the latter two conferences led the pushback. Conference commissioneers have agreed to go back to the drawing board for the new model for 2026 and expect fireworks until everyone agrees on one, if that's even possible.
Virginia Tech baseball reportedly hiring new pitching coach
When the Hokies' baseball season ended in the ACC Tournament last month, it didn't take long for head coach John Szefc to start making some changes. He moved from pitching coach Ryan Fecteau after another late-season collapse on the mound led to Virginia Tech missing the NCAA Tournament.
According to Kendall Rogers of D1Baseball, Szefc is hiring former Xavier pitching coach Doug Wiiley as their new leader of the pitchers. Anything is an improvement from what has happened in the last two seasons.
