Back in January, Virginia Tech football coach Brent Pry secured his first commit in the Class of 2026 when wide receiver Carnell Warren from South Carolina committed. It was a big get for Pry and his staff, a three-star to kick off recruiting in the rising senior class.

He had spent the last few months on X helping Pry recruit fellow class members from across the country to Blacksburg, but on Thursday, Warren took to his X account again, but this time to announce that he is de-committing from Virginia Tech to reopen his recruiting. This is the second huge blow to the Hokies in terms of recruiting in this class. Warren is the 46th-ranked wide receiver in his class and the seventh-ranked prospect in South Carolina according to 247Sports.

Virginia Tech football suffers another key recruiting de-commit in the Class of 2026

Last June, four-star quarterback Peyton Falzone committed to Virginia Tech, securing the first commit for Pry, which was a surprising decision from the Nazerth, Pa. QB. Then in November, he de-committed from Virginia Tech before settling on remaining in his home state with Big Ten powerhouse Penn State.

Thursday, Warren de-committing is a huge blow to Virginia Tech as it leaves them with just two verbal commitments from kicker Will Love and linebacker Joshua Pittman. That is not good as the Hokies now need to rebuild the class on the fly after losing two key commits in six months.

This weekend will be another weekend of visits for recruits and now Pry and his staff have more work to do before they get caught deeper behind everyone else in the ACC this cycle.
