Just under two months ago, things were rolling for the Virginia Tech baseball team. The Hokies won three consecutive ACC series, winning two out of three over Louisville and Notre Dame, then sweeping Wake Forest on the road, which was a stunning weekend in Winston-Salem. Then disaster struck as we went deeper into April.

Virginia Tech was swept at home by Florida State, lost two out of three to North Carolina at home, and then two out of three at Duke. Then there was the disaster at Pittsburgh, where they were swept by the Panthers, losing the final game, 14-13, in 13 innings after taking a 13-11 lead into the bottom of the 13th. That was the series that put the Hokies deeper behind the eight-ball when it came to the NCAA Tournament.

Last weekend, they dropped two out of three at home to Virginia before beating Stanford in the first round of the ACC Tournament, then they had their season end the following day at the hands of Clemson. The loss ended Virginia Tech's season at 31-25 overall after going 12-18 in the ACC. After losing to the Tigers, there were questions as to whether or not changes were going to made with the coaching staff, and on Saturday, the school announced two of them.

Virginia Tech announced that they were moving on from pitching coach and associate head coach Ryan Fecteau and director of player development Kyle Sarazin, who later confirmed the news on his X account with a goodbye message to Hokies fans.

It was necessary that changes of some kind were made after another season that saw the Hokies falter big-time over the second half of the season. It was a carbon copy of what happened in 2024 as Tech looked like one of the 64 best teams in the country only to stumble their way to the finish and miss the NCAA Tournament. Now rebuilding the roster after some key players are leaving is the next step for Szefc and his remaining staff.
