All of the talk the last couple of months has been the recruitment of four-star Class of 2027 quarterback Peter Bourque of Massachusetts, who plays at Tabor Academy in Marion. Since he de-committed from the University of Michigan in December after the school parted ways with former head coach Sherrone Moore, there has been a battle for Bourque.

In the beginning, there were a number of teams in the mix, but as time went on, it came down to three schools: Penn State, Georgia, and Virginia Tech. While Bourque was taking his time and playing the field, Penn State got involved with another Massachusetts Class of 2027 quarterback, Will Wood of Xaverian Brothers High School in Westwood.

There was some thought that Wood was Matt Campbell and Penn State's top choice, but the jury is still out on that. For the last couple of days, Brian Dohn of 247Sports reported that it was down to a two-horse race for Bourque between Georgia and Virginia Tech. However, it appears that things are changing 48 hours before the Hingham, Mass. native is to make his commitment.

Penn State reportedly reenters mix for QB Peter Bourque

Just when you thought that the Nittany Lions might be out, they're apparently making a late push for Bourque, who reportedly threw for teams on Tuesday. Penn State was reportedly in the Boston area to see Wood, but also to check in on Bourque. Georgia and Virginia Tech were also reportedly in town as well.

Dohn now believes that Penn State is back in the mix, and we will likely have a two-day battle between Campbell, James Franklin, and Kirby Smart. Who doesn't love recruiting in May?

Now, Rivals has also reported that this is a race between Virginia Tech and Georgia, but they included Penn State in their graphic, which got fans thinking that just maybe Campbell is making a late push for the signal caller.

Penn State and Georgia could absorb a recruiting loss here when Bourque makes his commitment. Virginia Tech, overtime, likely could as well, but this one feels like a battle that is a must-win for Franklin and the Hokies. The decision is going to be a big one for all schools involved.

Whatever happens, there are going to be more quarterbacks that will come onto Franklin and position coach Danny O'Brien's radar. This season's QB room is young in Blacksburg with Ethan Grunkemeyer, a Penn State transfer, North Carolina transfer Bryce Baker, true freshman Troy Hunh, and the lone returner from last year's team, Class of 2025 commit Kelden Ryan, who stayed following the coach and staff change.

However, in this day and age, several positions change from year to year with the Transfer Portal and NIL. The quarterback position is one that has a ton of turnover. Commitments are nice, but given the current state of college sports and the portal, a lot of times, they don't always stay at that school. The landscape is changing, and so are coaches.
