One name that has been connected with James Franklin and Virginia Tech since he de-committed from Michigan is four-star Class of 2027 quarterback Peter Bourque. He reopened his recruiting when Michigan moved from Sherrone Moore in December.

Once he reopened his recruitment, Virginia Tech and Franklin got in the mix. He was recently on campus in Blacksburg, and the Hokies figure to be a player in his recruitment. However, this is a recruitment that is taking its time and one that doesn't figure to be finished for a while.

While Virginia Tech, Georgia, and Penn State remain in the mix for Bourque, new Nittany Lions coach Matt Campbell offered another Massachusetts signal caller in the Class of 2027, Will Wood, who plays at Xaverian Brothers High School in Westwood. However, Franklin and Virginia Tech got some tough news on Tuesday with two new programs entering the mix for Bourque.

2 Power 4 conference schools enter the mix for Class of 2027 QB Peter Bourque

Two new schools entered the mix on Tuesday for Bourque, Auburn, and Ohio State. Both schools traveled to Marion, Mass., to visit and offer him, according to Brian Dohn of 247Sports. Ryan Day and the Buckeyes would love nothing more than to get into the picture for a former four-star Michigan commit, strike recruiting gold, and get a commitment.

Bourque is a priority for Franklin, quarterbacks coach Danny O'Brien, and offensive coordinator Ty Howle, but things were tough with Kirby Smart and Georgia in the mix. Factor in Auburn and Ohio State, and the competition is much tougher. You can see why the top programs are in the mix for Bourque, but it makes you wonder how long some schools will wait for him to make a decision. As far as Virginia Tech goes, expect Franklin and O'Brien to wait him out as long as possible.
